General Notes: Rawls family tradition records that around 1734, John Rawls built a home he named "Somerton Hall" within the bounds of several land grants of his father, William Rawls. John's son David died before his grandson, Andrew, became of age. David's brother, John Jr., was appointed Andrew's guardian. Upon John Jr.'s death, Andrew received that portion of the estate containing "Somerton Hall". At Andrew's death, this portion of the estate was devised to Andrew's son, Andrew Jackson Rawls. Noted events in his life were: • Occupation: Vestryman in Upper Parish, Nansemond Co., VA. John married Mary. |
