bullet  General Notes:

The 1900 Federal Census for Virginia, Nansemond Co., Cypress, District 24, page 48B/49A, dated June 2, 1900 records Edwin S. (June 1837) and Cornelia (March 1847) Rawles with children Ava (April 1875), and Vernon E. (March 1879).

The 1910 Federal Census for Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Neck, District 11, records Ava V. Rodgers (35) with husband William E. Rodgers (49) married for 8 years with 1 child who is no longer alive. Also in the home is Ava's widowed mother, Cornelia K. Rawles (63 - VA).

The 1920 Federal Census for Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Neck, District 20, records William E. (60) and Eva [Ava] V. (45) Rogers living on South Quay Rd.

The two records below would appear to be our Ava Virginia Rawls, however, they are just an incredible coincidence that could easily be taken for our Ava and William Rodgers. You can find this alternate couple in the 1900 Federal Census in Norfolk with children Pearl and Allen so it is clear that this represents a different Ava V. I include this here simply for research purposes of clarification.

The 1920 Federal Census for Virginia, Norfolk City., Madison Ward, District 107, records Ava V. Rodgers (51-VA/VA/VA) with husband William E. Rodgers (61-NC/NC/NC). Also in the household are sons Allen B. (20-PA/NC/VA) and Rufus L. (15-VA/NC/VA) Rodgers and grandson Robert Ardison (15-VA/NC/VA) and step son Melvin Carroll (6-VA/VA/VA). William is a Pilot on the Shipping Board.

The 1930 Federal Census for Virginia, Norfolk City., Madison Ward, District 104, records Ava V. Rodgers (63-Mother-in-Law,VA/VA/VA) with husband William J. Rodgers (68-Father-in-Law,NC/NC/NC) in the household of Thomas B. (64) and Pearl V. (44) Linton. The age at first marriage is 16 for Ada and 21 for William so this does not seem to be the correct couple.
