bullet  General Notes:

See general notes on his grand father, Drury Denton, for 1850 and 1860 census facts.

The 1870 Federal Census for Harris Township, Franklin Co., N.C., Pacific P. O., dated August 8, 1870, page 566A records Cynthia Denton (45) and children Jane (22), James (19), Nancy (15), Jonas (14), and Harry (4/12).

The 1880 Federal Census for Harris Township, Franklin Co., N.C. (ED# 94, page 620A) records Redin (28) and Mary (24) Denton with children Sidney (6), Benjamin (5), Hattie N. (3), Not Named (2/12).

The 1900 Federal Census for Harris Township, Franklin Co., N.C. (ED# 46, page 166A) records Redin (March 1849) and Bettie (March 1852) Denton with children Kearney (Apri 1885), Burkley (July 1889), Johnie (June 1892), Mattie (Dec 1893), Jemmie (Oct 1895), and Everett (March 1898). Both Red and Bettie report being married at age 27 and Bettie indicates she has had 7 children of whom 6 are still living. This is not consistent with the 1880 census thus inplying Red was previously married.

Ray and Bittie report being married for 20 years and Bittie indicates she has had 7 children of whom 4 are still living. Ray, John, Mattie, and James all work in the Cotton Mill. This is the 2nd marriage for Ray and 1st for Bittie.

Let me update the info I sent you and correct something also.
Sid Denton , was Sidney Denton ,born 1874 , he was a professor and lived in St. Marys Georgia. His wife was Vera and they had a daughter named Julia. She lived in Michigan or Minnesota the last I heard. I do not know when he died but he and his wife are deceased by now.
His father was James "Red" Redmond Denton born 3-10-1848
Wife Mary Eva Bennett Baker born 3-18-1890
His brothers were as follows
Jim Denton & wife Mamie
Benjamin D "Bunk" Denton & wife Fannie L. Kemp
Burt Denton
Matthew "Pete Denton & wife Lucinda Perry Richards
Studam Denton

My grandfather was Benjamin
My understanding was that there were some half brothers in there somehow.

I am just getting into this and would appreciate any info you could forward to me that would trace back beyond James "Red" Redmond Denton
I hope I have been of some help to you.

Sid Denton was my great Uncle, He lived in Saint Marys Georgia. His father was Redmond (Red) Denton. He had brothers Jim of Henderson NC, Rupert of Roseville , NC, Benjamin D. (Bunk) Denton of Middlesex NC and Zebulon NC. Benjamin is buried at Lees Chapel Baptist Church, Middlesex NC He was married to the former Fannie Kemp of Middlesex. He was my Grandfather
There was also a Pete Denton of Roseville, NC and I think he was also half brother
