bullet  General Notes:

The 1900 Federal Census for Harris Township, Franklin Co., N.C. (ED# 46, page 165B) records Sidney Denton (Dec 1874) living with the family of his uncle Jonas Denton (May 1858). (Jonas is indexed as James, however, later census records list Jonas with wife Ida and son Logan cinsistent with this census record ... Jonas is the son of Cynthia Denton, sister to Redin Denton ... Cynthia appears to be an unmarried mother, as indicated by the 1880 census) Listing Sidney as the nephew of Jonas is a bit confusing since Jonas has only one brother, James, that could be the father of Sidney and that doesn't seem plausible. Further research, such as a death certificate for Sidney, should be made.

The 1910 Federal Census for Pine Apple, Wilcox Co., Alabama, District 157, page 5B, dated April, 16 1910 records Sidney E. (36 - NC/NC/NC) and Myrtie D. (36 - VA/VA/VA) Denton with children John N. (4 - GA) and Sidney E. Jr. (2 - GA). Sidney is a school teacher and married 5 years.

The WWI Draft Registration Card from Schley Co., Georgia dated Sept. 12, 1918 for Sidney Eaves Denton (indexed Eaver) records his date of birth as Jan 29, 1874. He is living with his wife, Myrtie Denton in Ellaville, Schley Co., Georgia. He is a teacher employed by the school board. His physical description is medium height and build with brown eyes and black hair. His signature is difficult to read but he appears to write his name as "Sidney Eaves Denton".

The 1920 Federal Census for Ellaville, Schley Co., Georgia, District 80, page 3B records S. E. Denton (44), wife Myrtie (44), sons John (14), S. E. Jr. (12), Joseph R. (9), and daughter Mary J. (3) living on Ogelthorpe Street. Sydney is employed as a high school teacher. All children are born in Georgia.

The 1930 Federal Census for Helena, Telfair Co., Georgia, District 16, page 127A, dated April 4, 1930 records the widower Sidney E. Denton (50 - NC/NC/NC) employed as an insurance agent. None of his family is in the residence.

By 1940 Sidney has remarried: The 1940 Federal Census for Junction City, Talbot Co., Georgia, District 130-17, page 113A, dated April 25, 1940 records Sidney E. (66 - NC) and Vera E. (53 - GA) Denton. Sidney has completed 5 years of college and is employed as a Principal of a Common School earning $1,260 working 36 weeks during the last year. Vera has completed 3 years of high school.
