The 1850 Federal Census for the Eastern District, Rockingham Co., NC, page 38B, dated Oct 3, 1850 records Mary A. Branock's family living near by James Newton Thompson's family: Henry Branick (sic) (59 - NC) with his wife Elizabeth (45 - NC) and children G. S. (25 - NC), M. A. [Mary] (22 - NC), and Wm H. (5 - NC). Henry is fairly well off with real estate valued at $2,000.
The 1860 Federal Census for the Eastern District, Rockingham Co., NC, page 38B, dated Oct 3, 1850 records Henry Brannock (sic) (69 - NC) with his wife Elizabeth (55 - NC) and son William H. (15 - NC). Henry is rather well off with real estate valued at $3,500 and a personal estate valued $ 30,000. Next door is Henry's son and his family: Green S. Brannock (36 - NC) with his wife Emaline [Mary Emaline Ramsey] (26) and son, Martin (1) [Martin Luther Brannock]. Also in the household is Elizabeth Miles (45).
Mary married James Newton Thompson, son of Thomas Thompson and Unknown, on 16 Apr 1853 in Rockingham Co, NC. (James Newton Thompson was born on 10 Dec 1830 in North Carolina, died on 4 Feb 1873 in Missouri and was buried in Fewell Graveyard.)
