Sarah J. Gillen

  General Notes:

The death certificate for her son, Clinton D. Cramer, along with various census records leads one to the conclusion that her parents are William and Hannah Gillen / Gilleland, etc.:

The 1860 Federal Census for Hennepen Township, Putnam Co, Illinois, page 470 taken June 13, 1860 records Wm (42 - PA) and Hannah (35 - PA) Gillen with children Clarke (12 - PA), Ellen (10 - PA), Smith (8 - PA), and Frank (3 - Illinois). William is a day laborer. A few doors away is George Cramer with his wife Sarah J. (18 - PA) and children Clinton (1 - Illinois) and Christopher (1/12 - Illinois).

The 1850 Federal Census for Franklin, Fayette Co., PA, page 217B/218A records William (32) and Hannah (25) Gilleland (sic) with children Sarah (8), Stewart (5), Wesley (3), and Clark (1). Next door is Adam (69) and Hannah (50) Gilleland.

This appears to be the correct family and I suspect Adam Gillen is the father of William. It is of interest that this family, less Sarah who married George Creamer, moves back to Fayette Co., PA ... see notes on Sarah's father, William Gillen.

A transcribed Probate Court Records from Pat Stickley has Sarah Cramer 1843 - 11/23/1891, d/o Henry & S Givens, b PA. This record points to Sarah, wife of George Cramer (not Sarah, wife of Samuel Cramer, brother of George). The reference to d/o Henry & S. Givens is a puzzle. Other documents point to Sarah as d/o William & Hannah Gillen and no other Sarah Cramer is known to be in Urbana at this time.

Sarah married George C. Cramer/Creamer, son of George Cramer/Creamer and Elizabeth, circa 1858 in Hennepen Township, Putnam Co, Illinois. (George C. Cramer/Creamer was born about 1829 in Pennsylvania and died after 1880 in Urbana, Champaign Co., Ohio.)
