Dempsey Darden enlisted in Company K, 41st Infantry Regiment Virginia on June 6, 1861. He was issued a bounty on 15 March 1862 and reenlisted in Company K, 41st Infantry Regiment Virginia. He was hospitalized with typhoid fever on October 15, 1862 at Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, VA. then transferred on November 3, 1862 to Danville, VA Hospital (Estimated day). He returned to duty on January 17, 1863. Reoccurring bouts with typhoid fever caused him to be hospitalized on May 15, 1863 at Lynchburg, VA Hospital and again on July 15, 1864 at Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, VA. He was furloughed on July 30, 1864 for 30 days and returned to duty and surrendered with Company K, 41st Infantry Regiment Virginia on April 9, 1865 in Appomattox Court House, VA.
Dempsey married Elizabeth. (Elizabeth was born about 1850.)
