The Philadelphia, PA death certificate for Jacob Garren reports his date of death as March 30, 1867 and his age as 8 years and 7 months. His place of birth is listed as Doilstown (sic). His cause of death was Anasarca [see explanation below]. His parents are listed as Samuel and Sarah Garren living at 623 Jefferson Street. He was buried on April 2, 1867 at Doilstown (sic).
aka Dropsy, Ascites, Anasarca Anasarca, also known as "extreme generalized edema" is a medical condition characterised by widespread swelling of the skin due to effusion of fluid into the extracellular space. Often this condition manifests itself in the male genitals, causing painful swelling and difficulty urinating. It is usually caused by either congestive cardiac failure, liver failure (cirrhosis of the liver) or renal failure/disease and severe malnutrition/protein deficiency.
The place of burial is probably American Mechanics Cemetery (Established August 5, 1848) NE side of Ridge Ave at 22nd & Diamond St. (removed to Philadelphia Memorial Park, Malvern, PA)
