He enlisted in Company B, 29th Infantry Regiment Virginia on 13 March 1862. He was furloughed on 15 June 1862. He was on rolls on 15 April 1864 and wounded on 01 June 1864 at Cold Harbor, VA (Shot in left arm) then hospitalized on 02 June 1864 at Richmond, VA (Had arm amputated below shoulder).
He was then transferred to Company B, 29th Infantry Regiment Virginia on 22 February 1865 but hospitalized again on 15 March 1865 at Richmond, VA until he was transferred on 20 March 1865 to Emory, VA Hospl (Estimated day)
