James McMahon

  General Notes:

James was a devout member of the Catholic faith while his wife was a member of the Methodist faith. He came to Guernsey Co., Ohio in 1890 and worked at the Cambridge Iron and Steel Works called the Rolling Mills. The April 16, 1891 edition of the Cambridge (Ohio) Jeffersonian Newspaper reports the engagement and marriage of James McMahon and Laura Turner. see notes on his father, Daniel McMahon, for additional family facts and exerts from the book: "Portrait & Biographical Record of Guernsey Co., Ohio" published in 1895.

The 1900 Federal Census for Cambridge, Guernsey Co., Ohio, District 4, page 37B records S. James (Nov 1863) and B. Laura (June 1872) McMahon with daughter Ruth (Oct 1898) living at 411 Gomber Avenue. James and Laura have been married for 9 years and have had 1 child. James is a Heater in a Steel Mill.

The 1910 Federal Census for Trumbull Co. (Niles City), Ohio (ED# 245, page 266B) records James (45) and Laura (37) McMahon with their children Ruth (11) and Milton (9) living in Niles City. James is listed as a Roller for a Steel Works.

The 1920 census records the family in Weatherfield, Niles City, Trumbull Co., Ohio: (ED#301, page 247B) James (51) and Laura (46) McMahon with children Ruth (21) and Milton (19) living at 1024 Robbins Avenue. James is a Machinist in a Steel Mill.

James married Laura B. Turner, daughter of Milton Turner and Henrietta Urban, on 9 Apr 1891 in Cambridge, Guernsey Co., Ohio. (Laura B. Turner was born on 4 Jun 1872 in Georgetown, Guernsey Co., Ohio and died on 14 Jun 1960 in Trumbull Co., Ohio.)
