Bridget McHale

  General Notes:

The 1880 Federal Census for Wilkes Barre, Luzerne, Pa. (ED#114, page 559B) records the widow Bridget McMahon (45 - Ireland) living with children Patrick (18 - PA), Thomas (16 - PA), Delia (14 - Ohio), and Ellen (10 - Ohio) living on Pearl Street. Patrick is employed as a Laborer and Thomas as a Brakeman. Nearby is son Anthony McMahon (23 - NY/Ireland/Ireland) with his wife Catherine (24 - NY/Ireland/Ireland) and son Daniel (2). Anthony is employed as a Brakeman. (They are indexed as Mc Mahan at ancestry.com)

Unfortunately, the McMahon family suffers many losses in the ensuing years. The book, Portrait and Biographical Record of Guernsey County, Ohio, C.O. Owen & Co., Chicago, 1895 (see general notes on Bridget's husband, Daniel) reports that Anthony, Thomas, Delia, and Ellen have all passed away. According to the 1895 book, the father had died about 1873, while his son, Patrick, is reported to be in Colorado. Patrick's wife, Barbara, is listed as a widow in the 1900 census.

This may or may not be our Bridget ... more research is needed. There is another Bridget McMahon listed in the 1880 and 1900 census for Luzerne, Co., PA. (1900: Newport, Luzerne Co., PA records Bridget McMahon (Aug 1846 - Ireland) with children Margaret (May 1873), Patrick (Oct 1876), and Daniel W. (Jun 1879) ... (1880: Newport, Luzerne Co., PA records Patrick (40 - Ireland/Ireland/Ireland) & Bridget McMahon (37 - Ireland/Ireland/Ireland) with children Florance (16 - NJ), Mary (14 - PA), Ellen (12 - PA), John (10 - PA), Margaret (8 - PA), Patrick (5 - PA), and Daniel (1 - PA).

The 1855 New York State Census for Leyden, Lewis Co., New York dated June 123, 1855 records Edward McHale (16 - Ireland) boarding at the home of Pat (23 - Ireland) and Hannah (18 - Ireland) Towle.

The 1875 New York State Census for Greig, Lewis Co., New York records Edward (36 - Ireland) and Margaret (35 - Sch [in what county of this state were you born]) McHale with children Bridget MCHale (11 - Lewis), Margaret McHale (7 - Lewis), and John McHale (4 - Lewis). Edward is a farmer.

The 1905 New York State Census for High Market District, Lewis Co., New York records Edward (66 - Ireland) and Margaret (64 - US) McHale. Edward is a farmer and indicates he obtained his U.S. citizenshiop in 1858.

Bridget married Daniel McMahon. (Daniel McMahon was born about 1824 in County Clare, Ireland and died on 15 Sep 1870 in Weatherfield Township, Trumbull Co., Ohio.)
