The 1880 Federal Census District for Perry Township, Lawrence Co., Ohio, District 95, page 279B, dated June 22, 1880 records John (31 - Ohio/VA/Ohio) and Phariba (22 - Ohio/Ohio/VA) Hill with children Newton G (1) and Myrta P. (21/30 - May). John is a farmer. Next door is a Nancy McComach (16 - KY/?/?) living as a servant in the household of Keley (28 - Ohio/Ohio/Ohio) and Mary (31 - KY/VA/VA) Brammer. Also in the household are daughter Jennie M. Brammer (7 - Ohio/Ohio/KY) and nephew Henry Clay (18 - KY/KY/KY). This Nancy McComach is Sartain's step daughter and daughter of Nancy Liken (Lycans) Wilson McComas' daughter, Martha Ann Wilson.

The 1900 Federal Census for Perry Township, Lawrence Co., Ohio (ED#73, page 142A) records John Hill (51) with wife Pharaby (42) and children Mary J. (15), Rose M. (13), Shearly S. (12), Nannie A. (10), John H. (1) and mother-in-law Nancy McComas (81). Nancy is listed as a widow having 12 children of which 8 are still alive. This family is a few doors down from the family of Camilus and Viloa Melvin whose son, Franklin, will marry Nannie A. Hill in 1910.

The 1910 Federal Census records the family living in Perry Township, Lawrence Co., Ohio. Daughter Nancy is living with the family as Nancy A. Melvin. Her husband Franklin is not in the household. According to grandson Bob Hill, Frank was at college, however, census records indicate that he is living with his parents at this time (see notes on his father Camilus (Cornelius) Melvin).

John and Pharaby Hill are found in the 1920 and 1930 Federal Census records for Perry Township, Lawrence Co., Ohio. They are living on Lick Creek Road in 1920. In 1930, daughter Rose M. Hill (44) is living with them ... note: Rose is actually a son, Rose Mack Hill. He is listed as a son in the 1900 census and as Mack Hill in the 1920 census.
