Family stories from Robert F. Hill related in 2004 report that James Davis Barnes was a Boat Captain stationed in Norfolk [Bob Hill relates in Feb 2008 that he feels that he was mistaken about Captain Barnes and it was more likely that the Boat Captain was Mr. Baker.] and that Barnes was an "Older man to Pearl ... Pearl came down to Norfolk from Ohio after they had met through correspondence". ![]()
