bullet  General Notes:

The 1860 Federal Census for Virginia, Pittsylvania Co., North District, Museville P.O., page 209 taken July 22, 1860 records George W. White (21-VA) living in the household of Abram P. (27-Tinner) and Martha J. (23) Parrish. Also in the household is George Elliot (23). Elliot and White are Apprentice Tinners.

The 1870 Federal Census for Virginia, Pittsylvania Co., Subdivision North of Dan River, page 373B taken August 22, 1870 records George (30) and Eliza A. (19) White with daughter Ada (1). George is a Tinner.

The 1880 Federal Census for Virginia, Pittsylvania Co., Callands, District 165, page 92B taken June 1, 1880 records G. W. (41) and Eliza (30) White with children Ada (12), Wm (10), Joseph (6), and George (6/12). George is a Tinner and none in the family can read or write.

The 1900 Federal Census for Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 73, page 278B taken June 1, 1900 records George W. (May 1839) and Eliza A. (March 1850) White with children Mamie A. (Sept 1874), Henry J. (May 1876), Rison W. (Dec 1879), Rebecca L. (April 1883), and Peachy J. (April 1885). George and Eliza have been married for 32 years with 7 children all of whom are still living. George is a Tinner as are Henry J. and Rison W. The Mamie A. listed here and the Wm listed in 1880 create confusion of facts with the 7 children listed here. There is a William C. White (1870-Tinner) listed in the 1920 Chatham, Pittyslvania Co. census with a son named Peachy ... which implies the Wm in 1880 is the son of George and Eliza. But then who is Edward listed in the obituary below ... and why is Mamie not listed in 1880? Additional research reveals that William White is actually William Edward White ... who has a son named Peachy ... see notes on William Edward Whie.

Both George and Elizabeth White are mentioned in the May 27, 1927 obituary of their daughter, Ada Catherine White, printed in the Danville Bee. The obituary also mentions surviving children Mrs. Joseph Daniel and her brothers Edward, Rison, and Harvey White.
