Obituary of David F. Law posted at ancestry.com
Death of Aged Citizen.
Mr. David F. Law departed this life, at his home in Piedmont, on the evening of the 21st instant, in the 76 years of his age, having been born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, in November 1818. He removed from Virginia to Alabama nearly forty years ago, and settled near Gadsden, where he lived until the close of the war between the states, when he came to Cherokee County, and from thence removed to Piedmont a few years ago. He professed religion and joined the M.E. Church South about 25 years ago, and lived an humble and devout Christian until the day of his death. Mr. Law was a quiet and peaceable citizen, a faithful friend and a kind and indulgent husband and father. He was generous and obliging to a fault, having often been known to neglect his own business to accommodate his neighbor.
He started in life with a reasonable competency of the world's goods, but by reverses occasioned by the war, family afflictions and other misfortunes, he endured in his declining years many of the privations and inconveniences of poverty. But uncomplainingly and cheerfully he toiled on, until worn down by afflictions and the infirmities of old age, he laid life's heavy burdens down, found rest for his weary body in the grave, while his freed spirit went to its home in heaven, where friends and loved ones gone before, dwell in everlasting joy and peace. He has left an aged wife to travel the remainder of life's journey without his tender sympathy and counsel, and two sons to mourn the loss of an affectionate father. May the bereaved family find consolation and comfort in the promise of God's holy word, and in the hope of a reunion where "all tears shall be wiped away from all eyes, and where there shall be no more death!"
(Rev. P.H. Brewster was co-editor of the paper and the husband of David F. Law's half sister, Paulina Nelms Law. He undoubtedly wrote this piece.)
