Hi there!
I am Joan Melville writing from Spain and I just happened to come across your website because I was researching Bridget Hunt and Edward Murphy and wow! you have this amazing photograph of them on your site.
I'm in Spain but I'm Irish. My mother was born in South Shields in the north east of England. My great grandfather Timothy Hunt and Bridget's father Michael Hunt were brothers. Although it's true that Bridget was born in England, to Michael Hunt and Mary Bradshaw, the family were all from Ireland, from COUNTY SLIGO. The first three who left Ireland with their parents (Thomas Hunt and Catherine Gaughan) were Thomas (1849) , Timothy (1847) and Mary (1843) who were born in Ireland and then Michael was born in Scotland in 1852. There were other brothers too, John, James Patrick, Daniel. They worked in the coalmines in Durham and settled in that area when Bridget was born, and where I was baptised also.
WE could never find out what suddenly happened to Bridget and her father Michael Hunt, but then I found a marriage record that she had been married to a John Kelly in Nainamo [British Columbia, Canada] and widowed had [then] married a man called Edward Murphy. You know the rest!
It's very exciting to see a photograph of her. I see you speak about a Sherry Murphy, and I would love to be able to tell her any information I have if she is interested, also if any of Bridget's family are alive (great grandchildren by this time) I know Rose her daughter became Rosemary Petronella Heine and lived in Spokane, the other daughter was Margaret who married Raymond F Casey, Earl married Genevieve and I don't know what happened to Edward.

The 1881 English Census for Earston Ecclesiastical Parish, Village of New Hartley, Seaton Deleval Township, County Northumberland, England, District 11, (Tynemouth Registration District), Page 20 records Michael Hunt (29 - born in Scotland) with his wife Mary Hunt (25 - born in Northwest New Castle) and children Bridget (3 - Earsdon) and Thomas (3 mo - born in Earsdon) living at 11 Quarry Row. Also in the household is Michael's mother, Catherine Hunt (62 - born in Ireland) and brother Daniel Hunt (20 - born in Durham Oxhill). Both Michael and Daniel are coal miners.

The 1871 English Census for Washington Ecclesiastical Parish, Washington Civil Parish, Seaton Deleval Township, County Durham, England, District 11, Chester Le Street Registration District, Harraton Sub Registration District), Page 40 records Michael Hunt (19 - born in Scotland) with his mother Catherine (48 - born in Ireland) and brothers John Hunt (15 - born Oxhill, Durham, England), Patrick Hunt (13 - born Oxhill, Durham, England), and Daniel Hunt (7 - born Oxhill, Durham, England) living at 185 New Cottage. Also in the household is a niece, Katherine Cardone (10 - born Oxhill, Durham, England). Michael, John, and Patrick are Coal Miners while Daniel is a Scholar.

The 1861 English Census for Collierly Ecclesiastical Parish, Kyo Township, County Durham, England, District 11, Durham Registration District, Tanfield Sub Registration District), Page 47 records Michael Hunt (9 - born in Scotland) with his parents Thomas Hunt (47 - born in Ireland) and Catherine Hunt (40 - born in Ireland) and siblings Mary Hunt (14 - born in Ireland), Tim Hunt (14 - born in Ireland), Thomas Hunt (12 - born in Ireland), James Hunt (6 - Scotland), John Hunt (5 - born Lanchester, Durham, England), Patrick Hunt (3 - born Lanchester, Durham, England), and Daniel Hunt (3 mon - born Lanchester, Durham, England) living at 239 South Tanfield. The father, Thomas, as well as sons, Tim and Thomas are Coal Miners. Michael, James, and John are a Scholars.

Bridget married Edward E. Murphy, son of Peter Murphy and Rosanna O'brien, circa 1898. (Edward E. Murphy was born circa 1868 in Pennsylvania and died after 1945 in Spokane, Washington.)
