The 1850 Federal Census for Nansemond Co, Virginia, page 183A, dated October 26, 1850 records Malvina (sic) Archer (5 - VA) with her parents William (44 - VA) and Polly (35 - VA) Archer and siblings Elizabeth Archer (20), Sally A. Archer (19), Stephen Archer (16), Calvin Archer (14), Mary Archer (12), Keziah Archer (10), and Peggy A. Archer (2). Also in the household is Sally Archer (75 - VA), most likely William's mother. She is the only member of the household who can not read & write.

The 1860 Federal Census for Lower Parish, Nansemond, Virginia, Suffolk P. O., page 47, dated August 1, 1860 records Melvina Archer (15 - VA) with her parents William (53 - VA) and Polly (49 - VA) Archer and siblings Sarah Archer (27), Stephen Archer (26), Calvin Archer (24), Mary A. Archer (22), Margaret A. Archer (11), Martha V. Archer (9), and Robert A. Archer (5). Also in the household is Adolphus Redd (2 - VA). William is a farmer with real estate valued at $1,000 and a personal estate valued at $250.

The 1930 Federal Census for Windsor, Isle of Wight Co., VA, District 8, page 271A, dated April 10, 1930 records the widow Melvinia Roberts (84 - VA/VA/VA) living with her son Hurley Roberts (40 - VA/VA/VA) and his wife Helen (22 - VA/VA/VA). Hurley reports being married since age 37 while Helen reports be married since age 17.

Melvina married Calvin Roberts, son of Archibald Roberts and Catherine Powell, circa 1862 in Virginia. (Calvin Roberts was born on 29 Jul 1829 in Virginia and died on 2 May 1919 in Nansemond Co, VA..)
