Archibald Roberts is listed in the 1840 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., Va.
The 1850 Federal Census for Nansemond Co, Virginia, page 175B records Archibald (49 - Isle of Wight) and Catherine (48 - Isle of Wight) Roberts with children Calvin (21 - Isle of Wight), and Permelia (11 - Isle of Wight). They are living near by John A. and Treacy Cuthins which indicates property at the border of Nansemond and Isle of Wight Counties. (Treacy is the sister to the GG Grandmother of this researcher) Also in this household are Francis Powell (10 - Isle of Wight) and his sister Milly Powell (16 - Isle of Wight).

The 1860, 1870, and 1880 Federal Census records for Isle of Wight Co., Virginia list Archibald as 59, 70, and 80 years of age. It is clear that his daughter, Permelia, marries a William Henry Basset in that:
1) in 1860 William (32) and Permelia (16) Basset are living with Archibald;
2) the 1870 IoW census records Henry (45) and Permelia (36) with children Arch R. (10), William H. (5), Thomas L. (3), and Calvin W. (5/12);
3) in 1880, grand son Henry Bassett (15) is living with Archibald.
It is of interest that the 1880 Federal Census for Nansemond Co. records William H. (50) and Permelia (30) Bassett with children Arch R. (18), William H. (15), Thomas L. (13), Calvin (11), Joseph (9), and Ellen (7/12).

The 1860 Federal Census for Eastern District, Isle of Wight Co., Virginia, Smithfield P. O.,page 69, dated July 27, 1860 records Archibald Roberts (59) with Elizabeth Roberts (49). Archibald is a farmer with real estate valued at $3,000 and a personal estate valued at $2,000 including 1 slave, an 18 year old female. Also in the household are Wm Basact (32), Permilia Roberts (16) [surname of Roberts is somewhat blackened out], Francis Powell (20) and Bobb Butler (21). Wm is a Merchant with a personal estate valued at $100.

The 1870 Federal Census for Newport Township, Isle of Wight Co., Virginia, Zuni P. O.,page 259B, dated July 19, 1870 records Arch Roberts (70 - VA) living by himself.

The 1880 Federal Census for Newport Township, Isle of Wight Co., Virginia, District 32, page 302B, dated June 7, 1880 records the widower Archibald Roberts (80 - VA). Also living in the hosuehold is grandson Henry Bassett (15).

Archibald married Catherine Powell on 13 Mar 1828 in Isle of Wight Co., VA. (Catherine Powell was born about 1802 in Isle of Wight Co., VA. and died circa 1865 in Isle of Wight Co., VA.)
