Obituary for W. G. Goodman:
W. G. Goodman Dies at Home
W. G. Goodman died yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at his former home on Berryman avenue after a long illness. Mr. Goodman, who had been critically ill for several months in Knowville, Tenn., was brought to Danville, Monday night and never regained consciousness.
He had been connected to the Southern Railway company for the past fifteen years as a signal maintainer and was stationed here for ten years, being transferred to Johnson City, Tenn., in 1927 as assistant supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Glidewell Goodman, of this city, and three children, Evelyn, Garland and Bobbie Goodman. Two sisters, Mrs. Tom Maples, of Cameron, N.C., and Mrs. Elva Cain, Fayetteville, N.C., also survive.
Mr. Goodman was born in Cumberland county, North Carolina, and spent his early life in Greensboro, N. C. He was a member of the Lee Street Baptist Church of this city.
Funeral services will be held from the residence on Berryman avenue Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, with interment in Green Hill cemetery.

See notes on his sister, Elva and Beulah Goodman, for birth and death records that establish the parents in this family.

The WWI Draft Registration from Guilford Co., NC for a William Charles Goodman states his date of birth as Nov 24, 1891 in Manchester, NC and that he works in signal maintenance for the Southern Railway. His physical description is tall height with medium build and gray eyes and light hair. The individual taking the report is a clerk for the Danville, VA Corporation Court. Note: The obituary for Mr. Goodman states his name as W. G. Goodman while the 1920 census records appears to be W. C. Goodman [see notes on his wife, Sarah Emma Glidewell]. The WWI Draft Card reports information that appears to match the overall history that makes this researcher believe that William Charles Goodman is the husband of Sarah Emma Glidewell ... namely that the obituary states he was born in Cumberland Co., NC and raised in Greensboro and the WWI Draft Registration states he was born in Manchester [which is in Cumberland Co.] and that Guildford is the county where Greensboro is located ... and that the Registration is linked to Guildford Co. while written up in the Danville Corporation Court ... Emma is living in Danville most of her life and is where her husband dies. Also, the WWI Draft Registration is signed by John R. Cook, Clerk of the Corporation Court for Danville, VA and when the 1920 census record is searched one can find a John R. Cook in Danville, VA who is employed as "Clerk - Court House".
