Yancy B. Glidewell

  General Notes:

The 1850 Federal Census for Yancyville, Caswell Co., N.C. (page 218B) records Yancy (30) and Martha (24) Glidewell with children George W. (6), Margarett Y. (4), Davis (3), and John R. (9/12) living in the household of Jane Elam (52).

The 1860 Federal census records the family in the Southern District, Halifax Co., VA: Yancy (41 - VA) and Martha (31 - VA) Glidwell (sic) with children George J. (17 - VA), Margarett (14 - NC), Davis (12 - NC), John (10 - NC), Archer P. (9 - NC), William (7 - NC), Ellen (5 - NC), and Susan A. (2 - VA). From the children's birth, it appears the family returned to Halifax Co. about 1857. Yancy is employed as an Overseer.

The 1870 Federal Census records Yancy Glidewell and family living in the Birch Creek District of Halifax Co., Va.

The 1880 Federal Census records the Yancy Glidewell family in Pittsylvania Co., Va. (ED#169, page 185A) a few families away from James and Elizabeth Jones, parents of Sarah Jones who marries their son Archer around 1880. Archer and Sarah remain in Birch Creek, Halifax Co., VA. [Y.B. (63) and Martha (55) Glidewell with children John (30), Susan A. (20), Martha E. (17), and Nannie (14). Nearby is Yancy's son William J. Glidewell (26-VA) living with his sister Mary E. (24-VA) and her husband George W. Jeffress (25-NC). A few doors down is Sarah Jones' family: J. M. (54) and Elizabeth (52-NC) Jones with children Emma W. (20-NC), Anne (16-NC), James W. (14-NC), Edward (12-NC), and John (10-NC).]
