Research Notes:
From: Teresa Posted: 9 Aug 2006 3:41AM GMT at boards.rootsweb.com intlxchange@aol.com Madison and Elizabth Dye lived in VA and their son William is my g ggrandfather. James Madison's parents are Owen and Anna (McDonald) as we have had the family records for ages. Wm came to Pike Co, KY and married Rebecca Goff who is my ggrandmother. He left her with 3 small children to raise. I cannot locate him in records, but suspect he married again and had other children. My ggrandmother, their daughter-Ida remained in Pike County throughout her lifetime. My grandmother, Carrie was the ggrandaughter of James Madison and Elizabeth Dye. Some of the Breedlove family are buried on Call Cemetery on Swords Creek in VA. Teresa
Posted: 9 Aug 2006 3:31AM GMT Owen is an ancestor of mine as well. I am trying to find William, a descendent who first married Rebecca Goff in Pike Co. at age 18, then leaving her with 3 small children to raise alone. My ggrandmother, his daughter lived until I was about 22-23 years old and shared with us about her life experience. She also said they were in fact Cherokee and Blackfoot. When I recently researched there is a group called Eastern Blackfoot. I do know he came from Swords Creek.
Posted: 14 Aug 2006 11:58PM GMT I will need to go back through my records but will get information. Wm Breedlove married Rebecca Goff (from Racoon Creek in Pike County, KY) and had 3 children: Ida, Zettie, and Willie. He left Rebecca when the children were very young to raise all 3 children by herself and then returned to KY when my ggrandmother Ida was in her 20s to see the children!!!! My ggrandmother lived until the mid 1970's (outliving all of her children) said that definintely they were Indian- I found Eastern Blackfeet/Blackfoot in research that is not a known tribe but probably akin to the Melungeon, although Cherokee is most likely in the mix. We all know that putting Indian on any paperwork was not the thing to do in those days. I have a copy of Rebecca Goff and Wm Breedlove's marriage certificate and other info. I grew up in the area and visited the home of the families often, although I now live in Florida. I go back to KY regularly to see my parents and other family members. If anyone will email me at INTLXCHANGE@aol.com <mailto://INTLXCHANGE@aol.com> I will like to share and put the puzzle pieces together.
I am from Owen and Anna Mc Donald lineage. Wm and Rebecca Goff had 2 daughters and 1 son (Ida, one daughter- married Gregory Gross (a school teacher in Pike Co. KY). They had one daughter, Carrie - their only child. ( ggrandma Ida Breedlove Gross married 2 more times and had other children with last names Johnson) Carrie Gross (my grandmother) married George Washington Coleman. They lived in Pike County KY and had 9 children. Teresa Coleman-Bowling
James married Elizabeth Dye on 7 Sep 1854 in Russell Co., VA. (Elizabeth Dye was born on 12 May 1832 in Russell Co., VA. and died on 28 Sep 1915 in Russell Co., VA..)
