The 1850 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., Va. records Ralph (42) and Sophia (44) Adkins with children Francis (16), Elvira (14), Bartlett (13), Stokley (10), Whitmell (9), Edna (6), Sophia (4).

The 1860 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., Va. records Ralph (49) and Sophia (51) Adkins with children Lavinia F. (26), Whitmell (19), Edney C. (18), Sophia A. S. (15), and Josephine C. (10). Next door is Bawker Adkins (23), Elvira E. Adkins (23), and Lucy E. Adkins (1). One page over, in the census, is Bartlett A. Adkins (22) and Clotilia D. Adkins (22).

It is of interest that in the 1870 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., VA both Elivira (35) and Clotilda (32) Adkins remain neighbors but have no apparent husband. Elivira has children Lucy (11), Nannie (10), Thomas (3), and Willie (1) Adkins while Clotilda has children Henrietta J. (8) and Beverly L. (4) Adkins as well as "houseguest" Lucy J. Aaron (27). A study of the census records clearly indicate that Clotilda is the daughter of Sallie Aaron. The 1850 census records for Pittyslyvania Co.: Sally Aron (36) with children William (13), Clotilda (12), and John (8) Aron. In 1860 records Barlett Adkins (22) and Clotilia D. Adkins (22) are living in the household of Sallie (43) and William (24) Aron. The 1870 census records Clotilda Adkins (32) with children Henrietta J. (8) and Beverly L. (4) Adkins and is living next door to Sallie (52) and Thomas (30) Aaron. The 1880 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., VA records the widow Clotilda Adkinds (40) with daughter Herietta J. (18), son Beverly (14), and mother Sallie Aron (55). Next door is William J. Aron (44) and his wife Lucy J. (43) with children Luellen J. (11), Anna (9), John R. (7),Sallie L. (5), and William C. (2). The 1830 & 1840 census records write "Aaron"/"Aron" as "Arnn" but 1820 is Aaron.

The 1880 Federal Census for Pittsylvania Co., Va. records Ralph C. (72) and Sophia (74) Adkins living with their son Whitmell Adkins (38) and his wife Louisa and children Claudia (6), Zula F. (4), and James N. (1). Also in the household are Whitmell's sisters, Ednie C. (36) and Josephine (28).
