The 1900 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 72, page 244A, dated June 4, 1900 records Sophia Adkins (March 1806 - VA/VA/VA) living with her son and his family: Whitmell (March 1841) and Louesa (April 1835) Adkins and their daughters Claudy Adkins (Feb 1875) and Zular Adkins (Jan 1877). Also in the household is Whitmell's sister Edna Adkins (March 1843). Whitmell and Louesa have been married for 33 years and have had 6 children of whom 3 are still living. Sophia reports having had 10 children of whom 6 are still living.

Sophia married Ralph C. Adkins on 7 Jun 1830 in Pittsylavania Co., VA. (Ralph C. Adkins was born circa 1808 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. and died on 29 Jan 1886 in Pittsylvania Co., VA..)
