The 1850 Federal Census for the Western District, Tazewell Co., Virginia, page 305B, taken Sept. 25, 1850 records R. R. Steele (28) and wife Jane (27) with children Charles (8) and Andrew J. (4). R. R. is a farmer and has real estate valued at $2,300. Living with them is Francis Steel (19) and next door is probable brother Thomas (43) and wife Jane (43) Steele with their children Montriville (22), Boston (21), Caroline (18), Sarah (16), and Amanda (13). [2 pages over on 304A is his brother, Meshack Steele and family]

The 1860 Federal Census for the Western District, Tazewell Co., Virginia, Maiden Spring P. O., page 833, taken July 26, 1860 records R. R. Stelle (sic) (39) and wife Jane (38) with children Andrew (10), Beverly (6), and Mary E. (1). R. R. is a farmer and has real estate valued at $4,340 and a personal estate valued at $1,350.

The 1870 Federal Census for Maiden Spring Township, Tazewell Co., Virginia, Knob P. O., page 270B, dated Aug 5, 1870 records Reese R. (48) Steele and new wife Matilda (44) with sons Andrew (22) and Beverly (15), and daughter Elizza (11). Reece has real estate valued at $5,000 and a personal estate valued at $2,000.

The 1880 Federal Census for Maiden Spring District, Tazewell Co., Virginia, page 296B, dated June 21, 1880 records Reese Steele (60 - VA/Maryland/VA) with wife Matilda J. (48 - VA/VA/VA) and son Beverly F. (25).

The 1900 Federal Census for Elk Garden District, Russell Co., Virginia, page 74A, dated June 6, 1900 records the widower R. R. Steele (March 1821 - VA/VA/VA) and his divorced daughter, E. F. White (Jan 1866 - VA/VA/VA) and her children Zeola White (April 1880), Lenia White (March 1888), Grover G. White (March 1890), Andrew A. White (Nov 1892), and Landon R. (March 1898).

The 1910 Federal Census for Baylor Voting Precinct, Russell Co., Virginia, District 58, page 137A, dated April 27, 1910 records the widow Eliza F. White (46 - VA/VA/VA) and her children Zeola White (29), Grover G. White (20), Andrew A. White (17), and Landen D. (13).

The name Reese Reason Steele and his mother as Rosana Francisco were researched in the 1930s by Albert Earle Garrett Jr. [husband of Evelyn Hull Steele] and offered to this researcher ca 2000 by Earl's daughter, Clara Garrett Fountain and confirmed by various census records. The correction to the names Rezin Ratcliff Steele and Rosannah Fannin was researched by Dodie Elizabeth (Smith) Browning ca 1990 using court records and a family bible she transcribed ... see general notes on Reese's father, George Steele.

Rezin married Jane T. Johnson on 24 Mar 1841. (Jane T. Johnson was born on 17 Dec 1822 in Russel Co., VA. and died on 18 Sep 1865 in Tazewell Co., VA..)

Rezin next married Matilda J. Belcher on 3 Apr 1866 in Tazewell Co., VA. (Matilda J. Belcher was born on 4 Nov 1825 in Tazewell Co., VA. and died on 7 Oct 1896.)
