The 1850 Federal Census for Cherry Township, Sullivan Co., Pa., page 349A, dated Sept 16, 1850 records Frederick [Francis] (42) and Elizabeth (42) Groves (sic) [Graff] from Germany. They have children Eve (19), Adam (14), Ann (13), Elizabeth (9), Caroline (7), Hannah (5), Mary (4), and Francis (11/12). All children are born in Pennsylvania which means they immigrated to America by 1830. However, in the book referenced above, Eva's parents are said to have come to Amercia when Eva was 1 year old.
The 1860 Federal Census for Cherry Township, Sullivan Co., Pa., page 703B records Francis (52) and Elizabeth (52) Graves (sic) [Graff] from Darmsted [Darmstadt]. Also in the household are their children Hannah (16), Francis (11), and Loretta (8). Next door is Peter (30) and Rosanna (25) Murphy with children Mary (2) and James (6/12) Also in the household is the widow Margaret Obrine (50), probably Rosanna's mother.
The 1870 Federal Census for Dushore Post Office, Cherry Township, Sullivan Co., Pa., page 21B records Francis (63) and Elizabeth (63) Groff from Hesse-Darmstadt. They have children Henry (24) [Hannah], Francis (20), and Loretta (17).
The 1880 Federal Census for Dushore Post Office, Cherry Township, Sullivan Co., Pa., page 601B records Francis (72) and Elizabeth (72) Graff from Darmsted [Darmstadt]. Also in the household is their son Francis (31) with his new wife Lavina (26).
