James Eley Rhodes elisted in Isle Of Wight Engineers Regiment Virginia as a Private on April 24, 1862. On June 15, 1862 he transfered to Company F, 7th Battn Regiment Virginia.
On August 8, 1862 he transfered to Company F, 61st Infantry Regiment Virginia. He was hospitalized on October 8, 1864 (In brgd infirmary) and again on February 24,1865 at Jackson Hospl, Richmond, VA (With rheumatism)
He returned to duty on March 17, 1865 and was captured on April 7, 1865 at Jetersville, VA. He was confined on April 9, 1865 at City Point, VA and transferred on April 15, 1865 to Point Lookout, MD. James took the Oath of Allegiance on June 17, 1865 at Point Lookout, MD (Released).
