February 18, 1966 The Muscatine Journal and News-Tribune from Muscatine, Iowa · Page 13 George C. Marks, 71, pastor of the Blue Grass Presbyterian church since 1954, died at 7:50 a. m. today at the Blue Grass nursing home. He had been ill for eight months. Rev. Marks was born Jan. 7, 1895 in Grundy County, Iowa, and farmed until he was 17. He graduated from the academy at the University of Dubuque in 1922; and from the University of Dubuque Seminary in 1925. He was ordained on April 14, 1925, at Frankville, in the Presbytery of Dubuque. He married Helen M. Copps in Minneapolis on Sept. 9, 1924. She preceded him in death July 29. 1939. He later married Nellie Christine Stoner on Aug. 30, 1942 at Minneapolis. Rev. Marks served the Richland Center Presbyterian church in Monticello. Iowa from July 1, 1925 to June 23, 1929. He then went to Lancaster, Wis., where he served until Feb. 2, 1938. He served Lansing, Iowa and Church Town from Feb. 2, 1938 until April 2, 1944, when he went to Early, Iowa, where he remained until coming to Blue Grass on May 9, 1954. He was a member of the Blue Lodge, A. F. & A. M. of Early, Iowa; a member of the Early, Iowa Eastern Star, Scottish and York Rites 32nd Mason and Shrine. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ruth Marian Lovelace of Athens, Penn; one sister, Mrs. Victor Bulthuis of Parkersburg, Iowa and five grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at the Runge Mortuary in Davenport.
