The 1880 Federal Census for Philadelphia, Ward 22, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania, District 371, page 316A records Jacob (23 - PA - Machinist) and Mary (24 - PA, father from Germany) Borst with daughter Nelly (1). This is probably the correct family in that the 1900 Federal Census records a Nellie Borst (Jan 1879-PA-Servant) in Reading, Berks Co., PA.
The 1900 Federal Census for Reading, Berks Co., Pennsylvania, District 76, page 222A records the widower Jacob Borst (Oct 1856 - RR Machinist) with son Frannie A. (Oct 1880), Charlie (April 1886), Joseph (Oct 1888), and John (Dec 1889) living at 1031 Walnut Street.
The 1900 Federal Census for Reading, Berks Co., Pennsylvania, District 95, page 217B records Nellie Borst (Jan 1879) as a servant in the home of Clarence and Katherine Long on 437 Oley Street. These two locations are about 1 1/2 away from each other. Nellie M. Borst will marry Edward A. Lucken later that year in Reading. Ed (60 - Ill) and Nellie (51 - PA) Lucken with daughter Edna (21 - Ill) show up in Chicago in the 1930 Census.
The 1910 Federal Census for Reading, Berks Co., Pennsylvania, District 70, page 49A records the widower Jacob Borst (52) living at 1029 Washington Street. Also in the household is his son Charles A. Borst (24). Jacob is a Machinist with the RailRoad and Charles is a Pattern Maker at an Ironworks Shop.
