The 1900 Federal Census for the Cypress Magisterial District, Nansemond Co.,Virginia, District 24, page 61A, dated June 22, 1900 records Mary Milteer (March 1867 - VA/VA/VA) with her husband Alfred D. Milteer (Jan 1855 - VA/VA/VA) and children Emory T. (April 1888), Arthur D. (Jan 1889), S. Minnie (Jan 1892), W. Floyd (May 1893), C. Catherine (Dec 1896), and Alfred L. (Dec 1883). Alfred and Mary have been married for 14 years and have had 5 children all of whom are still living.
Note: Alfred L. Milteer is a son from Afred D. Milteer's first marriage to Sallie Brinkley. Alfred dies in 1901 - from www.findagrave.com

Milteer (44 - VA/VA/VA) with her children Emery (22 - VA), Arthur (20 - VA), Minnie (15 - VA), Floyd (16 - VA), Katharina (13 - VA), Nellie (10 - VA), Mary (6 - VA), and Alton (6 - VA) living at 700 Harrison Street. Mary has had 8 children all of whom are still living. Emery is employed as a Foreman at the Steel Mill while Arthur is a Clerk at the Steel Mill.

The 1920 Federal Census for Gary Ward 2, Calumet District, Lake Co., Indiana District 97, page 142A, dated January 8, 1920 records the widow Mary Milteer (52 - VA/VA/VA) with her children Minnie (28 - VA), Kathryn (22 - VA), Nellie (19 - VA), Mary (15 - VA), and Alton (15 - VA) living at 700 Harrison Street. Minnie is employed as a School Teacher while Kathryn is a Clerk for a Physician.

The 1930 Federal Census for Gary City, Calumet Township, Lake Co., Indiana District 18, page 120B, dated April 9, 1930 records the widow Mary Milteer (63 - VA/VA/VA) with her children Nellie (27 - VA), Catherine (29 - VA), and Alton (25 - VA) living at 700 Harrison Street. Nellie is employed as a Stenographer for a Real Estate Company while Cathrine is a secretary for City Hall and Alton is an Operator for the Tube Mill. Also in the household is Mary's married daughter, Minnie M. Patterson (35 - VA) with her husband Philip P{atterson (33 - Michigan/Michigan/PA). Philip is employed as a Foreman at the Tube Mill while Minnie is a Public School Teacher. They have been married for 6 years.

Interesting to note that Mary C. Milteer is found in the 1913 Gary City Directory as the widow of Alfred.
