Kerrville Mountain Sun from Kerrville, Texas · Page 2 Thursday April 24, 1941
Of friendly interest to Hill Country friends will be the story of the wedding of Miss Nellie Nyc to Leonard Adrian Derden which occurred Saturday in San Antonio, and which appeared in the Houston Chronicle Sunday, April 20. The marriage of Miss Nell Marie Nyc, daughter of Mrs Maude Burge Nyc of Houston and Frederick Francis Nyc of Kerrville, to Leonard Adrian Derden, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Ira Derden of Houston, was solemnized at 9 a. m. Saturday at Annunciation Church by the Rev. Anton Frank. Miss Mary Slavinsky, organist, played the wedding music and also the accompaniment for Edward Young, who sang the Ave Maria. The altar was adorned with white gladioluses and white stock. Mrs. Robert M. Derden, sister-in-law of the groom, was matron of honor and Mrs. Frederick W. Schillo and Miss Helena Schillo were bridesmaids. All were dressed in deep shell mousseline dc sole over taffeta, made with fitted bodice, short sleeves and circular skirts, and wore dainty matching hats trimmed with bows of taffeta. Edwin Derden, brother of' the groom, was best man and Lawrence Sauer, Glenn Still, John Gorman and Frederick Schillo were ushers. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, Frederick Nyc, Jr., was gowned in white mousseline de soie over satin, with fitted bodice, sweetheart neckline and bouffant skirt which fell into an abbreviated train. She wore gauntlets of shirred mousseline that extended to her upper arm. Her finger tip veil of illusion was held in place by a circular tiara covered with lilies of the valley to correspond with her bouquet of white rosebuds and lilies of the valley. The bride's mother wore light Copenhagen sheer with navy accessories and corsage of briarcliff.
A breakfast for the bridal party and immediate relatives was served following the ceremony. The table was centered by a wedding ring cake iced in a delicate shade of pink, and decorated with one large white orchid and sprays of lilies of the valley. Pale pink ruching of tulle encircled the cake, from beneath, and the cake was mounted on a mirror reflector. Mr. and Mrs. Derden will be at home at 603 West Polk following a short wedding trip to New Orleans. The bride's going-away ensemble consisted of a navy and white polka dot dress with navy crepe coat and navy accessories. Out-of-town guests included Frederick Francis Nyc, Sr., of Kerrville, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Nyc, Jr., and son Freddie, of Edinburg; Mr. and Mrs. Kirwin Derden of Wharton, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Chollar of Gatesville, Mr. and Mrs. P. L. White and Miss Doris Frances White of Kerrville, and Miss Billie Ruth Watson of San Angelo.
