The 1900 Federal Census for Spring Township, Perry Co., PA, District 162, page 226A records Ella J. Hench (March 1885) living with her parents, Scott S. (Aug 1863 - PA/PA/PA) and Amanda J. [Senseman] (March 1865 - PA/PA/PA) Hench, and siblings George Cal (Oct 1889), Ethel C. (April 1894), and Brant S. (March 1899) Hench. [The dates are very hard to read.] Scott and Amanda have been married for 18 years and have had 5 children all of whom are still living. Scott is a house carpenter. [Another daughter, Alta (June 1886) can be found living as a servant in the home of Abraham F. and Mary S. Burkholder of Perry Co., PA.]
The 1910 Federal Census for Spring Township, Perry Co., PA, District 139, page 208B records Samuel S. (46 - PA/PA/PA) and Amanda J. (45 - PA/PA/PA) Hench with children Alta R. (23), Ethel C. (16), Brandt S. (11), and Margaret B. (3) Hench. Samuel and Amanda have been married for 25 years and have had 6 children all of whom are still living. Samuel is a house carpenter.
Note: The WWI Draft Registration Cards records Ella's brother George as George Cadwallader Hench born on October 5, 1890 in Elliotsburg, PA. He is employed as an Anglesmith at the New York Ship Yard in Camden, NJ. His WWII Draft Card Record gives his name as George Cad Hench.
Note: The WWI Draft Registration Cards records Ella's brother Brandt as Brandt Shoemaker Hench born on 12 Mar 1899 . He is employed as a Blacksmith at the New York Ship Yard in Camden, NJ. In the 1920 census he is living with his brother George and his wife Blanch and his as well as his brother's occupation is "Angle Smith" at the Ship Yard.
The 1930 Federal Census for Lancaster City, PA, District 56 records Ella Hagan (45) as divorced and living with her sister, Margaret Brooks (24) at 317 1/2 North Queen Street. Both Ella and Margaret are Waitresses and Margaret reports being married for 7 years. Note: The 1920 Federal Census for Spring Township, Perry Co., PA, District 152 confirms Margaret B. Hench (13) as a daughter of Scott and Amanda Hench, Ella's parents.
The 1940 Federal Census for Lancaster City, PA, District 36-97, page 1736B, dated 1940 records Ella Hagan (55 - PA) as divorced and a housekeeper for George Shindale (57 - PA) at 242 W Lemon Street. Also in the household is a divorced Margaret Hench (33) and next door is Brandt (41) and Hazel (47) Hench. Margaret and Brandt are Ella's siblings.
