The 1850 Federal Census for Monroe Co., West Virgnia, Division 39 1/2 records Albany N. Mann (6) living with his parents, Floyd (33) and Elizabeth (30) Mann, and siblings Saml. H. (4), James P. (2), and Mary F. (1). Nearby is the family of Henley (39) and Elizabeth Mann (34). Henley and Floyd are probably brothers. The Manns are farmers.

No such record has been found for Floyd Mann although his wife's name was found as Betsy Batton Wiseman. Another record was found that indicated the parents of Floyd Mann were James W. Mann and Lucy Keaton. Floyd was born in 1817 in Monroe Co., VA.

Newton and Polly have been married for 43 years and have had 8 children of which 5 are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Forest Hill District, Summers Co., West Virgnia District 131, page 90A records the widower Newton A. Mann (75) living next door to his son, Walter H. Mann (44) and his wife, Modie (40), and children Mabel (19), Frankie (18 - daughter), Lula (16), Rosa (14), Lee (12), Ruby (10), Bula (10), Dorsie (8), Charles (5 10/12),and Mattie (2 8/12). Also in this household is Walter's brother, Frank F. Mann (46). They are all farming.

His death certificate clearly gives his given name as Alkana Newton Mann and his parents as Floyd Mann and Elizabeth Wiseman... see medical notes.
