Academy Teacher Dies Unexpectedly
Mathematics Instructor is discovered dead in North Augusta Residence
James Morgan Buckner, teacher of mathematics at the Academy of Richmond County the past 25 years, died unexpectedly in his sleep early yesterday morning at his residence, 717 East Avenue, North Augusta. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Platt's Funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ettie Creighton Buckner; one daughter, Miss Betty Buckner, a student at Columbia college, Columbia, S. C.; his mother, Mrs. M. Buckner, North Augusta; and two sisters, Miss Mercedes Buckner and Miss Gladys Buckner, both of North Augusta.
Mr. Buckner was born in Fairfax, S. C., son of Mrs. Mary Morgan Buckner and the late Benjamin H. Buckner. He was a graduate of Clemson College, where he received a bachelor of science degree, and he did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, where he received a master of science degree.
He entered the Army in World War I as a private, attended officers training school at Camp Jackson, S. C. and at the close of the war had attained the rank of captain.
He was an inveterate reader of history and biography. His many students regarded him as a skillful teacher of mathematics and his friends knew him as an interesting conversationalist.
