The 1900 Federal Census for The Pigg River District, Pittsylvania Co., Va., Dist 83, page 111A records William (April 1863) and Nellie (March 1863) Bowen with children Bessie (May 1883), Jessee (March 1884), John (Feb 1886), Daisie (Dec 1887), Frank (March 1890), Robert (Nov 1891), Lula (March 1893), Paul (Feb 1894), Mary (Nov 1895), Jennie (March 1897), and Bennie (Sept 1899). William and Nellie have been married for 20 years and have had 11 children all of whom are still living.

The 1910 Federal Census for The Pigg River District, Pittsylvania Co., Va., Dist 101, page 209B records William H. (47) and Nellie C. (47) Bowen with children Bessie L. (24), Daisy C. (22), Robert F. (19), Lula A. (17), William P. (15), Mary E. (13), Janie B. (11), Bennie L. (10), Laura A. (7), and Charlie L. (2). William and Nellie have been married for 27 years and have had 14 children all of whom are still living. This family is obviously not good with numbers or the census takers have real problem recording data. Mary is born in 1895 versus 1897 and then, step grand niece, Deannie Adkins, reports that she was born on Oct. 11, 1896

The 1920 Federal Census for The Pigg River District, Pittsylvania Co., Va., Dist 155, page 3B records W. H. (56) and Nellie C. (56) Bowen with children Mary (22), Jinne L. (20), Laura (15), and Charles (12) living on the Climax and Hendricks Road. Also in the household is daughter Daisy Parker (32 - widow) with her daughter Carrie E. Parker (1 8/12).

The 1930 Federal Census for Pigg River, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, District 21, page 193A records the widower W. H. Bowen (67) with his widowed daughter, Daisy Davis (35). Next door is William's son, Bennie L. Bowen (28) with his wife, Emma (24) and daughter Nellie M. (0).

Mary married John Thomas Adkins, son of Ralph G. Adkins and Hersy Ann Reynolds, circa 1922 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. (John Thomas Adkins was born on 24 Aug 1872 in Pittsylvania Co, VA and died on 5 Jul 1940 in Pittsylvania Co, VA.)
