I was fortunate to talk with "B R" Doughtie via telephone in 2002. I had managed to find a listing for a Bolden R. Doughtie in Norfolk and was thrilled to make contact with my great grandfather's grandson. He told me his son was living with him. He remembered his grand father Doughtie quite well and he could take me to the house he had visited many times so long ago. He remembered visiting "Aunt Allie" in Richmond as a child. I was surprised by that revelation, not knowing of an "Allie Doughtie", until I realized that Allie was actually my grand mother Alnona Doughtie Daughtrey. My mother, Inez, told me she remembered a little boy (Bolden) that used to peak in the outhouse and was a general pest. I can imagine that little boy with all his brothers on a visit to "Aunt Allie's" with all those "icky girls" (Ethel, Garlan, LeClaire, and particularly little Inez). A great story from both cousins who are sadly missed by their families. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to meet "B R" before he died while visiting one of his children. I sent letters of condolences to his son and hoped to meet sometime for a visit but he never responded.
"BR" did tell me he disliked his name "Bolden Riddick" and always preferred to be called "B R".
