Root (38 - NJ) and Mary Root (31 - PA) and siblings Onslow H. Root (14 - PA), Mary L. Root (9 - PA), and Sarah A. Root (7 - PA). Wm appears to be employed as an Overseer for Permiterting (sic).
The 1880 Federal Census for Philadelphia, PA, ED# 636, page 333B, dated June 2, 1880 records Wm H. Root (47 - NJ/Conn/NJ) and his wife Mary Root (40 - PA/PA/PA) and children Orlow H. Root (24), Mary L. Root (19 - PA), and Laura A. Root (17 - PA) living on North 24th Street. Also in the household is Orlow's wife Emma Root (24 - PA) [listed as a daughter-in-law] and a stepson, W. Ackerman (4 - PA) living at 210 North 24th Street. William is a Prison Overseer and Orlow is employed at what looks to be "Cupalo Fender". Note: From wikipedia: A cupola or cupola furnace is a melting device used in foundries that can be used to melt cast iron and some bronzes. From an Old Occupations Web site: A Fender Smith made and maintained fenders surrounding fires ... a person employed to clean and repair the metal fenders before fireplaces.
