Living with her are her nieces and nephews Blanch Boyle (22), Ruth Boyle (20), William Boyle (18), and Dorothy Boyle (16). Ella can be found in Lancaster in 1930 with her neices and nephew although Blanch and Dorothy are married with children: The 1930 Federal Census for Lancaster Ward 5, Lancaster Co., PA, District 53 records Ella D. Herr at 416 West Walnut Street. The head of house hold is listed as George L. Hess (31) who is married to Ella's niece Blanch [Boyle] (32). George and Blanch have children George (6), Robert (4), Dorothy (3 3/12), and John (1 4/12).

The 1940 Federal Census for Safe Harbor, Conestoga Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 36-18, page 313, dated May 4, 1940 records Ella Herr (82) living with George L. Hess (41) who is married to Ella's niece Blanch [Boyle] Hess (42). George and Blanch have children George (15), Robert (14), Dolores (12), John (11), Donald (9), and James (7). George is employed as a Maintenance Foreman at the Power Plant. Also in the household is George's father, Isiah D. Hess (82), who is divorced and living in York Co., PA on April 1, 1935.

Ella married Emanuel Frey Herr circa 1898 in Lancaster City, Lancaster Co., PA. (Emanuel Frey Herr was born on 31 Jul 1877 in Cresswell, Pennsylvania and died after 27 Apr 1942 in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster Co., PA.)
