Elvia Lee Rooker
General Notes: The 1900 Federal Census for Ward 4, Roanoke City, Virginia, District 96, page 83A, dated June 4, 1900 records Elvie L. Rooker (July 1887 - VA) living with her parents John A. (March 1862 - VA/Maryland/VA) and Ann E. (Oct 1866 - VA/VA/VA) Rooker and siblings Grace M. (Jan 1891), Agnes G. (May 1893), and Clara E. (July 1899) at 418 4th Avenue [just off Shenandoah NE]. John and Ann have been married for 14 years and have had 5 children of whom 4 are still living. John is a Machinist. Elvia married William Andrew Jackson on 7 Oct 1905 in Roanoke, VA. (William Andrew Jackson was born on 15 Jun 1884 in Sharpesburg, Maryland, died on 21 Aug 1957 in Roanoke, VA and was buried in Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke City, VA.) Marriage Notes: The Roanoke Circuit Court Clerk's Office marriage record for W A Jackson and Elvie Lee Rooker [Vol 2 160 12] names William's parents as B. F. & Mary E. Jackson and Elvie's parents as John A. & Ann E. Rooker. The date of the marriage appears to be Oct 7, 1902; however, census records seems top indicate ca 1905 and thus perhaps the 2 vs 5 look on the written record. |
