Near by are other Steels: Robert Steel (26) with his wife Julia (20) and daughter Rebecca (2) and James Steel (35) with his wife Nancy (23).

The 1860 Federal Census for the Western District, Tazewell Co., Virginia, Baptist Valley, Cedar Bluff, and Tazewell Court House P. O., page 848, taken Aug. 1, 1850 records Eli (33 - VA) and Louisa (23 - VA) Steele with their children George R. (11), Ralph E. (9), Mary E. (6), and Charles W. (3). [George, Ralph, and Mary are children with Virginia] Also in the household are James McGuire (10/12) and Thos L. Griffith (21).

The 1870 Federal Census for Maiden Spring Township, Tazewell Co., Virginia, Knob P. O., page 281A, dated Aug 5, 1870 records Louisa Steele (34 - VA) with children Charles (13), James (11), Wade (9), George R. (21), R. E. (18), and Mary E. (16). Of course, George, Ralph, and Mary are actually Louisa's step children. Louisa has real estate valued at $3,000 and a personal estate valued at $1,000.

Elihu married Louisa Lockhart on 10 Jul 1856 in Tazewell Co., VA. (Louisa Lockhart was born circa 1836 in Virginia and died after 1870 in Tazewell Co., VA.)
