SALLIE DOUGHTIE WOLFLEY
Sallie Doughtie Wolfley, 95, passed away at the Newport Nursing Home on Friday, July 5, 2002.
Born April 17, 1907, in Gatesville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah Doughtie. She was a member of First Friends Church of Hampton and was a member of the Adult Bible Class. She was a homemaker and worked a few years in the 1940's and 1950's for Asheville Mica Co. She enjoyed her tablemates, Hazel, Meridith, Nellie and Clarence, when she was at the Governor's Inn Retirement Center.
Mrs. Wolfley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Wolfley Sr.; their son, Robert L. Wolfley Jr.; six sisters, six brothers and a grandson, Douglas Wolfley.
She is survived by her two sons, William A. Wolfley and his wife, June, of Newport News and Rev. Eugene Wolfley and his wife, Frances, of Kingston, Jamaica, and her daughter-in-law, Polly Wolfley Bass of Hampton. She also raised four of her eleven grandchildren, Donald, William, Richard and Sandra Wolfley, and has numerous great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Peninsula Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Peters. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park with visitation to follow at First Friends Church.
