The 1870 Federal Census for Robertson Magisterial District, Madison Co., Va., page 78 records Napoleon B. (28-Wheel Wright) and Aurelia C. (26) Bowler with children Florence E. (4) and Virginia E. (1). Next door are his parents Arthur W. (52-Wheelwright) and Matilda E. (50) Bowler.
The 1860 Federal Census for Woolf Town Post Office, Madison Co., Va., page 55 records Arthur W. (42-Wheelwright) and Matilda E. (42) Bowler with children Berry T. (20-Wheelwright), Napoleon B. (18-Wheelwright), Mary A. (17), and Christopher C. (15). One page over is Napoleon's future wife, Aurelia Simms.

Birth Date: September 12, 1842 Unit Numbers: 750 Service Record:Napoleon Bonaparte Bowler enlisted as a Private on April 23, 1861 in Company A, 7th Infantry Regiment Virginia. He was wounded on May 31, 1862 at Seven Pines, VA (Wounded hand). At Camp Letterman, Gettysburg, PA he was detailed as nurse to Gen. Kemper. During the Battle of Gettysburg, PA he was taken POW on July 3, 1863 and confined at Ft. McHenry & Fortress Monroe (Returned to Confederate States)
On April 1, 1865 he was taken POW at Five Forks, VA and sent to Point Lookout, MD. He was released on June 10, 1865. His physical description includes: Height: 5'10 ", Eye Color: grey, Hair Color: light, Complexion: light
