The 1880 Federal Census for Criglersville (Robertson Magisterial District), Madison Co., VA, District 108, page 402 records Hubert L. Bowler (6) living in the home of his parents N. B. (38-Wheelwright) and Aurelia C. (36) Bowler. Also in the household are Hubert's siblings Florence N. (13), Virginia E. (11), and N. B.'s widowed mother, M. E. Bowler (58) [Matilda].

The 1900 Federal Census for Robertson Magisterial District, Madison Co., Va. District 39, page 81A records Hubert L. Bowler (Jan 1874-Wheelwright) living with his widowed mother, Aurelia C. Bowler (Jan 1844).

The 1910 Federal Census for Robertson Magisterial District, Madison Co., VA, District 48, page 213B records Hubert (36 - Wheelwright in his own shop) and Pauline (32) Boler [Bowler] with daughter Julia C. Bowler (1 7/12) and mother Aurelia C. Bowler (66).

Notes on Hubert's WWI Draft Card (1917-1918) indicate his date of birth to be Jan 13, 1874. He is of medium height, medium build, with grey eyes and light hair. He lists his occupation as wagon maker and undertaker.

The 1920 Federal Census for Robertson Magisterial District, Madison Co., VA, District 63, page 95A records Hubert L. (46) and Pauline B. (42) Bowler with daughters Julia C. (11), Elen B. (3 11/12), and Margaret W. (8/12). Hubert is employed as an Undertaker.

The 1930 Federal Census for Robertson Magisterial District, Madison Co., VA, District 5, page 60B records Hubert L. (56) and Pauline (52) Bowler with daughters Julia (21), Ellen (12), and Margaret W. (10). Hubert is employed as an Undertaker.

The 1940 Federal Census for Robertson Magisterial District, Madison Co., VA, District 57-9, page 91B, dated April 9, 1940 records Hubert L. (66 - VA) and Allie (36) Bowler with daughters Ellen B. (23) and Margaret W. (21) living along Road 231. Also in the household is Hubert's widowed father-in-law Joshua Daughtrey (70 - VA). Hubert is employed at General Machine Wood Work. Ellen is a Public School Teacher while Margaret is a Clerk in a General Store. Hubert has completed High School, Allie has completed 2 years of college as has Ellen. Margaret has completed 6 years of high school [must be a mistake] and Joshua has completed 6 years of grade school. Joshua will pass away in August of 1940.

Hubert next married Allie Beale Daughtrey, daughter of Joshua Taylor Daughtrey and Allie Bertie Beale, circa 1935. (Allie Beale Daughtrey was born on 18 Jul 1904,³⁶ died on 21 Oct 1983 in Arlington, VA and was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.) The cause of her death was Myocardial Infarction.
