The 1910 Federal Census for Virginia, Norfolk City, Ward 8, District 67, page 229A records a married May Toolin (22-VA/VA/VA) with son John (5-VA/Ireland/VA). She has been married for 6 years with 1 child.

The 1920 Federal Census for Virginia, Norfolk City, Jefferson Ward, District 76, page 270A records a married May Toolin (31-VA/VA/VA) with children John (17-VA/Ireland/VA) and Dorothy (4 0/12-VA/Ireland/VA) living with a married Dorothy Tierney (30-VA/VA/VA) at 201 East Freemason Street. Dorothy Tierney is possibly May's sister or good friend. There is a sailor, Nichols Tierney (1863-Ireland/Sailor), listed in the 1910 Census for Virginia, Norfolk County, Portsmouth, 4th Ward, District 101, page 33A (U. S. Navy Yard) ... one page over from Joseph Toolin. Both Joseph and Nichols are listed as single. See notes on Joseph F. Toolin.

The 1930 Federal Census for Norfolk (Independent City), Virginia, District 48, page 148B (image 12 of 20 at ancestry.com) records Dorthy Tierney (52-widow) (indexed as Turney at ancestry.com) with listed "Tierney nephew and nieces": John (28) and May F. (23) Tierney [Toolin] with their daughter Joan M. Tierney (1) [Toolin] and Dorthy Tierney (14) [Toolin], John's sister, living at 441 Graydon Ave. (as stated in the 1930 census record for John Toolin). John (28) & May (23) "Tierney" have been married 2 years. John is a Machinist for the Railroad.

Perhaps Dorothy and May Toolin were sisters .... if so ...
The 1900 Federal Census for Norfolk (Independent City), Virginia, Ward 6, District 113, page 235B records Dorothy (April 1891) and May (May 1889) Wright living with their parents W. B. (Sept 1857 - VA/VA/VA)and Lillie (Aug 1867 - Maryland/PA/PA) Wright and siblings Lillie C. (Sept 1886), Elizabeth (Sept 1896), and Minnie T. (June 1898) living at 18 Olney Rd. W. B. is a Traveling Salesman. While this seems like the correct family, the 1920 census (Norfolk) records the William and Lilly Wright family with daughters May and Dorothy in residence ... so this is probably not the correct surname ...

May married Joseph Francis Toolin. (Joseph Francis Toolin was born in Feb 1871 in Ireland, died on 24 Apr 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland and was buried on 27 Apr 1937 in Baltimore National Cemetery / Section D Site 3017.)
