(11 - VA). Neither Wiatt nor Phoebe can read or write. Wiatt is a farmer and has real estate valued at $350. It is of interest that Wyatt Adkins and family can be found in Pittyslvania Co., VA in the 1840 census (see notes on his sister, Nancy). The 1850 census above reports his youngest son, Benjamin, born in Virginia.
The 1860 United States Federal Census for Liberty Township, Grant Co., Indiana, page 311 records Wyatt Adkins Sr. (59 - VA) with his wife Phebe (64 - VA) and son Wm A. Adkins (25 - VA) and Jacob Adkins (3 - Indiana). Next door is Wyatt Adkins Jr. (23 - VA) and his wife Ellen (20 - Indiana) and their son Henry C. (2 - Indiana). Note: Indiana Marriage Records list the marriage of William Adkins to Matilda Jackson on February 28, 1863 in Grant County, Indiana (Marriage Records Volume I Book C, Book 3A, OS Page: 113) and then the 1860 United States Federal Census for Liberty Township, Grant Co., Indiana, page 316, dated June 29, 1860 records Matilda Jackson (21 - Ohio) with her husband Isam Jackson (25 - Indiana) and son Andrew Jackson (2/12 - Indiana). Civil War records indicate that Isam enlisted into Co. G of the 47th Indiana Infantry on Dec 9, 1861 and died Febraury 24, 1862 at New Haven, Kentucky. Thus this Matilda Hockett Jackson [Matilda Hockett married Isam Jackson on July 26, 1855 in Grant Co., Indiana] is most likely the wife of our William Adkins. Well ... actually William's 2nd wife in that Indiana Marriage records list William A. Adkins married to Margaret Glunt on February 16, 1854 in Grant Co., Indiana.
