James Willard Pressnell

James enlisted in the Navy on Dec 9, 1936 at Richmond, VA ... he is F3C [Fireman 3rd Class 9 ... lowest starting rank]. He served on USS Turkey (AM-13) which was an Lapwing-class minesweeper in the U.S. Navy. By 1943 he was promoted to MM1C [Machinists Mate 1st Class].
By 1944 he was aboard the recently built USS Longshaw (DD559), a Fletcher Class Destroyer.
In 1945 he transferred to the USS Balduck (APD-132) another Fletcher Class Destroyer and by July 1945 was promoted to CMM (AA) (T) [Chief Machinists Mate].
In January 1946 he was on board the USS Enterprise (CV6).
By the fall of 1946 he moved to the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) [Iowa Class Battleship] and in May 1947 is on the General A.E. Anderson AP-111.
