Enlisted in Co. I, 13th North Carolina Infantry on August 21, 1861. He was captured at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware July 3, 1863. He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 22, 1863 assigned to Co. E, 3rd N.C. Calvary. He applied for a pension in 1891 and his wife, Emma, applied as a widow on June 15, 1894.
