The 1910 Federal Census for Huntsville Township, Rockingham Co., NC, District 151, page 7A, dated April 24, 1910 records Willie S. (41 - NC/NC/NC) and Sue L. (33 - NC/NC/NC) Mitchell with children John M. (13), Emma C. (11) [Emma Katherine], Lillian G. (9), and Willie C. (12/12). Willie is a farmer and has been married to Sue for 14 years. They have had 4 children all of whom are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Madison Township, Rockingham Co., NC, District 209, page 12A, dated January 19, 1920 records Willie S. (51 - NC/NC/NC) and Lillie (41 - NC/NC/NC) Mitchell with children John (22), Gertrude (19), and Clay [daughter] W. (11). Also in the household are "daughter law" Minie L Mitchell (21), "son law" John Thacher (20) and grand daughter Annie S. Griffin (1). Since John and Gertrude are both listed as married one can assume that John is married to Minnie and Gertrude is married to John Thacher. Willie and John Mitchell are employed as House Carpenters while Gertrude, Minnie, and John Thacher are employed as Labor in a Cotton Mill.

The 1930 Federal Census for Madison Township, Rockingham Co., NC, District 12, page 185B, dated April 9, 1930 records Willie S. (59 - NC/NC/NC) and Lillie (52 - NC/NC/NC) Mitchell with Kate Griffin (31) and her husband Jesse [Lee] Griffin (34) and their children William L. (13), Annie S. (11), and Elizabeth G. (9) living on 5th Avenue. Willie is a Grocery Store Merchant while Jesse is a Salesman for a Grocery Store. Kate is the Proprietor of a Cafe.

The 1940 Federal Census for Mayodan Town, Madison Township, Rockingham Co., NC, District 79-15, page 291B, dated April 11, 1940 records William S. (70 - NC) andSue L. (61 - NC) Mitchell running a boarding house with 11 lodgers on Second Avenue. William is the Owner of a Retail Grocery and Sue is the Housekeeper for the Boarding House.
