In 1843 the Garrett family went to Missouri and stayed. Jarrett Bolden and William Starling returned to Rockingham Co., N.C. Other Garretts returned occationally for visits. (see notes on brother James)

The 1850 Federal Census of Jefferson Township, Johnson Co., Missouri page 35A records Thomas H. Garrett (39, born in N.C.) with wife Letitia (35, born in VA.) and children Mary A. (13, born in N.C.), James L. (11, born in N.C.), William (10, born in N.C.), Elizabeth (6, born in Missouri), George W. (4, born in Missouri), and Caroline (2, born in Missouri). James W. and Ann T. Garrett and family are living near his brother Thomas' family. [The middle initial H is for Henry.]

The 1860 Federal Census of Jefferson Township, Johnson Co., Missouri page 35A records Thomas Garret (48, born in N.C.) with wife Letitia C. (44, born in VA.) and children Mary E. (23, born in N.C.), James L. (21, born in N.C.), William P. (19, born in N.C.), Elizabeth J. (16, born in NC), George W. (14, born in Missouri), and Virginia C. (12, born in Missouri).

Thomas married Lettice (Letitia) Clark Parrish, daughter of Unknown and Unknown, on 22 Mar 1836. (Lettice (Letitia) Clark Parrish was born about 1815 in Virginia and died on 22 Jul 1899 in St. Clair Co., Missouri.)
