Berks County Soldiers Depart for Training. New Cumberland Reception Center
Eighty-three U. S. Army selectees from Reading and Berks county have been assigned to permanent post from the New Cumberland Reception Center as announced by Lieut. Col. Joseph A. Sheridan, commanding officer of the center. Seventy-four of the recently inducted selectees were sent to the Signal Corps Replacement Training Center at Fort Monmouth, N.J. Men from Reading who were in the contingent thus assigned were: Richard A. Hagen, 823 Thorn St. (with 82 others)

Obituary for Richard A. Hagen:

Richard A. Hagen, 86, of Holly Drive, Exeter Township, formerly of Birch Street, died Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sept. 25.

He was the husband of Eva A. (Haas) Hagen.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Albert and Harriet (Harper) Hagen.

Hagen was employed for seven years as store manager by Devoe Department Store, Reading, and was employed for 12 years as paint department manager for Glidden Co., Reading, at Pomeroy's Department Store, Reading. He was last employed for 25 years as a paint salesman by the Dries Paint and Hardware Store, Reading, retiring in 1986.

He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

Hagen is also survived by daughter, Maureen E. Hagen, at home.

Other survivors include three sisters: Mary (Hagen) Fries, in Virginia; and Jean (Hagen) Falinski and Kathleen (Hagen) Lichtenwalner, both of Reading.

Entombment will be private in Forest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, Reiffon. Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Exeter Township, is in charge of arrangements.
