The 1910 Federal Census records Samuel L. Kavanaugh, age 60, a widower living with his son's family in Truro Township, Knox Co., Illinois. His son Archibald has been married for 2 years to "Linnie" A. [Garrett] and has two sons, Frederick W. and Archibald Jr.
The 1880 Federal Census records a S. L. Cavanaugh living in Gage Co., Nebraska with wife Elsie and sons John and Archibald. This is most likely the correct family for Arch but more research is needed (June 2004).
The 1870 Federal Census records a John Cavanaugh living in Columbia Township, Wapello Co. (Eddyville Post Office), Iowa with wife Mary A. and daughter Cynthia and son Samuel. This is most likely the correct family for Samuel in that apparent future wife Elsie resides in the same town but more research is needed (June 2004).
Samuel married Elsie Ann Frederick, daughter of John Frederick and Ester E. Hanna. (Elsie Ann Frederick was born about 1848 in Ohio.)
